In short
- The extension reads the record counts and storage totals that your tools show, inside your own browser.
- It runs only the code that comes with it and never code from our servers.
- No page text leaves your browser until you review a reading and save it. Starting a run tells us only which tools you picked and when.
- Only General Data Labs, Inc. receives what you save. No model, analytics or advertising service is involved.
01What the extension does
The extension has one purpose: to measure how many records and how much storage the tools you choose hold, inside your own browser, and to report the numbers you approve to your Data Partnerships account.
It opens each tool you pick in a tab of your own browser, using the sign in you already have, and reads the page. It knows how to read Gmail, Google Drive, Outlook, OneDrive, HubSpot, Jira, Zendesk and QuickBooks Online. The readers are part of the extension and are fixed: the extension does not download or run any code from our servers. You review each reading before it is saved.
02What it asks for
When you add the extension, your browser shows its own permission notice. The extension asks for three permissions and the two addresses of our portal.
- Storage, to keep your connection for the browser session and the few settings below.
- Scripting, to put its reader into a tool's tab after you allowed that website, and for nothing else.
- The side panel in Chrome and Edge, which is where the extension shows its controls. Firefox uses its sidebar.
- The Data Partnerships portal at partner.thegeneraldata.com for the extension's own requests, and its previous address, partner.generaldatalabs.com, so either portal page can connect the extension.
A tool's website is asked for only when you pick that tool, one website at a time, and you can remove it later. The extension cannot read your browsing history or your downloads, and it has no access to a website you did not allow.
03What it reads
On the pages of a tool it opened itself, it reads the visible text that shows a record count or a storage figure, the words around it, and the account address the tool shows for the signed in person. It does not touch your other tabs.
It does not read your passwords, authentication codes or session cookies, and it does not record what you type. It opens the report pages of a tool by their address.
04What is sent, and when
Nothing that a page shows is sent until you press Save. Three things reach our servers, all at partner.thegeneraldata.com. Earlier versions use partner.generaldatalabs.com:
- When you connect, the one time code from the portal, which the extension trades for a token that lives in memory until you close the browser or twelve hours pass.
- When you start a run, a record that names the tools of your list you picked, the time, how the run ended and the version of the extension. It holds nothing from a page.
- When you press Save, for each reading you kept: the figure and its label, the tool, a short quote of the page that shows the figure (at most 600 characters), the address of that page, the account address the tool shows and whether it is on your company domain.
The address of a page is kept as the website and the path only. Anything after the path, such as a query or a fragment that could hold a session token, is cut off in your browser and again on arrival.
The extension keeps on your device the tool addresses you typed, such as your Zendesk address, and a short log of the last run with one line per step and no page text. Removing the extension removes both.
05Who receives it
General Data Labs, Inc. receives what you save. In this version no model provider, analytics service, advertising service or other outside party receives anything the extension reads. Our hosting and database providers store it for us and act on our instructions.
06Limited use
Our use of what the extension reads follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use the readings only to provide and improve the single purpose above and to prepare our reply to you about your company's data. We do not trade, rent or give away what you save. We do not use it for advertising, for credit decisions or for anything unrelated to this extension. People at General Data Labs, Inc. read a saved reading only because you reviewed it and chose to save it, or where the law or security requires it.
07Read only by design
The extension is designed to look and not to change anything. Its readers match text on a page. They do not press controls or fill in fields, and they only run on the website of the tool you picked. You can stop a run at any time.
08Account check
The extension reads the account address that a tool shows, so that we can tell whether a reading comes from the company account and not from a personal one.
09What we store
When you save a reading, we store the figure, the tool, the date, the quote and address that support it, and the account address. It becomes part of your company information and our Privacy notice covers it. People on our staff who read it see it marked as self reported through the extension, because it comes from your browser and we have not checked it. A reading you discard is not saved.
10Stopping, removing access and uninstalling
Stop a run with the stop control in the extension panel. Disconnect on the Get the extension page of the portal, or sign out in the panel. Remove a website's access in your browser's extension settings, under the details of the extension. Uninstall the extension from the same page.
Uninstalling does not delete readings that are already saved to your company. To delete them, write to us.
11Changes to this notice
We may update this notice. Each version has a number and a date at the top. If a new version of the extension reads or sends more than this one, this notice changes first and you are told before it applies.
